International Grantmaking: The New Narrative

In this session, the presenters explored the various lenses used in establishing and successfully managing an international grantmaking strategy. Case studies included the corporate funder’s perspective and opportunities related to social responsibility and brand management; how private foundations employ practices that align with organizational goals and values; and how public charity and donor advised funding mechanisms have to grapple with meeting constituency and client expectations within the realms of IRS and in-country regulations.

Topics of discussion included: geographic considerations of international grantmaking; regulatory bodies and policies that impede grantmaking and the benefits of dialogue and information sharing; best practices for safe international grantmaking; how to give strategically and make impact; and trends and effects of diaspora giving internationally.

Understand the strategies associated with international grantmaking, learn how to tackle the issue of reputation protection and offer best practices, and see the benefits of and how your organization plays a part in international giving.
